Oscar Shapiro fought in the US Army during World War II. He is in this photo from the Chicago Sun newspaper showing a American soldiers participating in a Jewish service performed on the Siegfried Line In November of 1944.

The photo was reprinted on the cover of the national Jewish Monthly in December of 1944.
